Success rate of Hypnotherapy for phobia

This week I have researched the success rate of hypnotherapy for phobia, specifically my own hypnotherapy methods.

I’ve noticed that most hypnotherapists are reluctant to do this kind of research.

But it’s an obvious question which potential clients want answers to.

Many of them give vague answers, which basically amount to saying “it depends.”

Others quote the figure of 93%, but rarely give a source for this impressive success rate. (It actually comes from a very old study which has been criticised as unreliable by many other researchers).

Success rate of my hypnotherapy for phobia.

So I looked at the clients whom I’ve treated for phobia since 2020.

Of clients who attended 3 or more sessions, 72% completely overcame their phobia or made good progress in overcoming it.

As regards the “good progress” group, many of these clients chose to continue working on their own using the methods I had taught them.

A further 21% experienced some improvement, and most of these clients had attended only 2 or 3 sessions.

So I believe they could have made much more progress if they had continued seeing me a bit longer.

So 93% of clients benefited from hypnotherapy for phobia.

Of course these numbers don’t include the clients who dropped out after only one or two sessions.

In most cases they didn’t give the therapy a chance to work!

Dropping out of therapy before it’s finished is like sacking a builder before he’s put the roof on the house, and then complaining that the rain gets in!

Actually some clients did well after just one or two sessions.

But you should plan for three to five if you want the best chances of success.

The great majority of successful clients had no more than five sessions.

Those who did need more than five all had other problems besides their phobia.

How to succeed with phobia hypnotherapy.

What makes the difference between the most successful and less successful clients?

Your own motivation is by far the most important factor.

How much do you really want to get rid of that phobia forever?

This especially applies to young people. I can work with children of 14 years old and upwards, but the child has to be motivated to succeed, same as an adult.

Timing is also important.

If there’s some frightening event upcoming, you should allow for at least three sessions before the event.

I usually invite clients for a free initial discussion before beginning therapy.

this is in addition to the actual therapy sessions which they pay for.

One last thing.

Many of my phobia clients had seen other hypnotherapists before, and sad to say, 77% said it hadn’t helped.

Of those for whom hypnotherapy had not helped before, 87% benefited from my therapy.
